Brazilian municipalities update tax collection and deadlines

Municipalities in Brazil are implementing changes to tax collection and payment schedules. In Caraguatatuba, the second installment for the Fixed Service Tax (ISS) and various License, Location, and Operation Fees is due on Thursday, August 20. Subsequent installments are scheduled for September 21, October 20, November 23, and December 21. Taxpayers can download payment slips via the official municipal website.

In São Joaquim, the Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Fee (commonly known as the 'Trash Tax') will be decoupled from the Property Tax (IPTU) starting in 2026. Instead of being included in the IPTU bill, the fee will be issued via a separate payment slip available online. Local authorities clarified that this is not a new tax, but a change in the billing method necessitated by the inability to integrate municipal databases with CASAN's water billing system. The single payment and first installment for this fee are set for September 10.
