Brazilian music celebrated through new festival show and Chico Buarque reinterpretations

Brazilian music is undergoing various forms of celebration and reimagining through new performances and recordings. The Franz Cabaret Cultural Festival in Florianópolis will host the show ‘100 Years of Brazilian Popular Music’ on August 22, 2026. Featuring singer Bárbara Damásio and pianist Luiz Gustavo Zago, the free performance traces the evolution of Brazilian music from the 1920s to the present day, covering works by artists such as Noel Rosa, Dorival Caymmi, Gilberto Gil, and Chico Buarque.

In a separate project, the album ‘Chico 2.0’ will be released on August 21, 2026, by Favela Records, Tha House, and Universal Music Brasil. The project features ten reinterpretations of Chico Buarque’s classics, such as ‘Construção’ and ‘Cálice,’ blending his work with genres like funk, rap, and trap. The album brings together diverse artists, including MC Livinho, Tasha & Tracie, and Grag Queen, to bridge different musical generations and scenes within the Brazilian market.
