Brazilian music is being celebrated through various cultural initiatives, including the ‘100 Years of Brazilian Popular Music’ show at the Franz Cabaret Cultural Festival in Florianópolis. Parallel to these celebrations, the ‘Chico 2.0’ project has launched to reimagine the repertoire of Chico Buarque. A collaboration between Universal Music Brasil, Tha House Company, FRecords (also referred to as Favela Records), and Central Única das Favelas (Cufa), the project is under the musical direction of Alê Siqueira and the conceptualization of Felipe Poeta. It aims to bridge musical generations by blending Buarque’s classic compositions with contemporary genres such as rap, trap, funk, R&B, soul, and new MPB.
The first installment, consisting of ten tracks, was released on digital platforms on August 21, 2026. Notable reinterpretations include ‘Cálice’ by Xênia França and MC Cabelinho, ‘Construção’ by Dexter, Maurício Pazz, and MC Livinho, ‘Deus Lhe Pague’ by Tasha & Tracie, and ‘João e Maria’ by TZ da Coronel and Júlia Mestre. Other participating artists include MC Cabelinho, Grag Queen, Don L, Budah, Vandal, Bela Maria, and Maurício Pazz. A second part of the project is scheduled for release in October.
