Brazilian Music Education Projects Reach Schools in Santa Catarina and Roraima
The Escola Sonora project launched its 2026 season in the Greater Florianópolis area, delivering free weekly concerts to public schools in Florianópolis, São José, Palhoça, Biguaçu, Santo Amaro da Imperatriz and Antônio Carlos. The program, inspired by musician Hermeto Pascoal, plans 50 performances across 25 institutions, engaging nearly a thousand students with interactive lessons on sound, rhythm and improvisation.
In Boa Vista, Roraima, the Arte Jovem+ initiative staged its first 2026 SESI Show of Singing & Choir. About 30 students performed under conductor José Luiz Costa, alongside the inter‑generational Coral Melhor Idade. The free event highlighted musical development for children and adolescents and fostered community participation.
Both projects aim to expand access to music education in Brazil’s public schools, promoting cultural engagement and creative learning.
