Brazilian officials face disciplinary action over political social media posts
Two Brazilian public officials have faced administrative consequences following controversial social media posts targeting political opponents and specific demographic groups.
In Pimenta Bueno, Rondônia, the municipal government dismissed Larissa Prado Silva from her commissioned position. The decision followed Instagram posts attributed to her account that expressed wishes for sexual violence against the families of political opponents. While the city administration stated the dismissal was based on a loss of confidence in her role, Silva’s defense maintains that her account was hacked and she was not the author of the messages.
In Macaé, Rio de Janeiro, municipal prosecutor Renata Pinto Rodrigues Pimentel Ribeiro has been suspended for 30 days. This follows social media posts in which she suggested that businesses should avoid hiring artists, poor individuals, and people from the Northeast or Minas Gerais regions, while stating she would no longer implement public policies for supporters of the PT party. The suspension is part of an ongoing administrative disciplinary process and a Civil Police investigation to determine if functional infractions occurred.
