Brazilian officials facing disciplinary action for social媒体
Overview
Brazilian public officials have faced administrative and legal consequences following controversial social media activity.
In Rondônia, the municipal government of Pimenta Bueno dismissed Larissa Prado Silva from her commissioned position after Instagram posts attributed to her expressed wishes for sexual violence against the families of political opponents. Silva’s defense claims her account was hacked.
In Rio de Janeiro, municipal prosecutor Renata Pinto Rodrigues Pimentel Ribeiro received a 30 day suspension following posts suggesting businesses avoid hiring artists, poor individuals, or people from specific regions, while also stating she would cease implementing public policies for supporters of the PT party. This is part of an ongoing administrative and police investigation.
In Pará, a labor court ordered Carolina Pereira Arruda da Costa, the municipal president of the Liberal Party in Ananindeua, to retract social media posts. Costa allegedly advised employers to dismiss employees for political reasons by using economic justifications to hide discriminatory motives. The court prohibited her from inciting employers to discriminate against or harass workers based on political beliefs.
