Brazilian quilombola schools in Ubatuba and Campinas receive national recognition

A school in the quilombola community of Ubatuba was honored at a national ceremony in Brasília, receiving a R$ 10,000 grant from the National Fund for Education Development (FNDE) for its Food and Nutrition Education project. The initiative, led by nutritionist Liandra Monteiro and school staff, integrates local food culture and health education for students.

In the Minas Gerais municipality of Campinas, a municipal law was approved that formally recognizes the local school as a quilombola institution. The law, authored by the municipal executive and unanimously passed by the city council, will enable a curriculum that reflects the community’s Afro‑Brazilian heritage and traditional knowledge. Both actions underscore growing official support for quilombola education and cultural preservation in Brazil.
