Palmas, Brazil hosts regional cultural committee summit and sustainable fashion showcase
The Encontro Regional Centro‑Norte of the Programa Nacional dos Comitês de Cultura took place from July 1‑3 at the Espaço Cultural José Gomes Sobrinho in Palmas, Tocantins. Backed by the Fundação Cultural de Palmas and attended by Ministry of Culture officials, representatives from ten states and the Distrito Federal, the event focused on the theme “Culture in all senses” and discussed inputs for the upcoming Plano Nacional de Cultura.
On the opening night, singer‑composer Dorivã, known as “O Passarim do Jalapão,” performed a set of fourteen original songs, highlighting the musical heritage of Tocantins and adding a cultural‑artistic dimension to the meeting.
Separately, the concluding “Moda Sustentável do Cerrado” runway on July 3 showcased collections created by young participants from five Tocantins territories. Funded through the Programa Rouanet Juventude and sponsored by Shell, the project taught sustainable design and textile reuse, linking fashion, cultural identity and income generation for youth.
