Brazilian retailers adopt new work schedules amid labor trends
Major Brazilian retail and pharmacy chains are transitioning from the 6x1 work schedule to a 5x2 model, providing employees with two days off per week. Companies such as RD Saúde (Raia and Drogasil) and Grupo DPSP (Drogaria São Paulo and Pacheco) have implemented this change, while supermarket groups like Savegnago are redistributing the standard 44-hour weekly workload across five days. This shift aims to reduce employee turnover and increase job attractiveness amid national debates regarding labor hour reductions.
Other retailers, including Extrabom, Supernosso, Coop, Farmácias São João, and Pague Menos, are either testing the model or beginning progressive implementation. These companies report improvements in organizational climate and increased candidate interest.
In a separate labor trend, a survey of 200 marketing and sales professionals conducted by Reportei reveals significant workload issues. The study found that 59% of professionals work outside of standard business hours, with nearly 20% doing so almost daily. Additionally, 65% report receiving weekly urgent demands, contributing to a lack of predictability and planning. The report also highlights a lack of recognition, with only 9.5% of respondents feeling fully valued by their employers.
