Brazilian samba schools prepare themes for 2027 Carnival
Samba schools in Brazil are advancing preparations for the 2027 Carnival. Unidos de Padre Miguel has released its official samba-enredo, titled ‘Yèyé Omó Ejá – A Coroação das Rainhas das Águas’. Developed by carnival designers Allan Barbosa and Ricardo Hessez, the theme is inspired by Iemanjá and explores the connection between the sea and rivers through the deities Iemanjá and Oxum.
Meanwhile, Unidos do Viradouro is hosting a semifinal competition on September 12 in Niterói to select its samba-enredo for 2027. Four musical partnerships are competing for a spot in the final. The school’s theme for the upcoming carnival, ‘Griô’, focuses on the oral traditions of West African storytellers and their influence on Brazilian cultural memory.
