Brazilian school prevention programs educate thousands of children

The Decid project, run by the Subsecretaria de Proteção e Defesa Civil in partnership with Guarulhos' municipal education department, delivered a six‑week civil‑defense curriculum to 5th‑grade students (ages 9‑11) in July. The program covered first aid, fire safety, flood response, traffic safety and personal security, and trained participants to act as community multipliers. It has been recognized nationally as a best practice by the Comissão de Adaptação Urbana e Prevenção de Desastres.

In Mato Grosso, the Ministry of Public Prosecutor's "Prevenção Começa na Escola" initiative reached about 3,200 students across five municipalities from July 27‑31. Using the theatrical play "Inocentes Pétalas Roubadas," the project addressed child sexual abuse, bullying and protection of school heritage. The performances involved local prosecutors, police, social assistance officials and the municipal council for children's rights, emphasizing legal avenues for protection and prevention.
