Brazilian schools implement new literacy and reading initiatives
Educational institutions in Brazil are implementing various initiatives to promote literacy and reading. In Várzea Grande, students at EMEB Manoel João de Arruda participated in a special program through the Extended School Time (ETA) program. The activities, themed ‘Textual Genres’, utilized creative methods such as a spelling bee, talent shows, and interactive games to develop writing, oral, and social skills.
In Canela, the Cônego João Marchesi school received 400 books of Brazilian and foreign literature through the Biblioteca RS project. Funded by the Clic sociocultural project via the Rouanet Law, the donation includes works by renowned authors like Machado de Assis. Local officials noted that the school was selected due to its significant growth in the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb).
