Brazilian Senate candidates propose STF oversight and impeachment

Brazilian Senate candidates Alexandre Curi and Ricardo Salles have expressed support for the impeachment of Supreme Federal Court (STF) ministers if evidence of crimes of responsibility is proven.

Alexandre Curi, running in Paraná, argues that impeachment alone is insufficient to resolve institutional conflicts between the Supreme Court and Congress. He proposes permanent structural changes, including the creation of a Code of Ethics for ministers, external oversight mechanisms, increased transparency regarding conflicts of interest, and limits on monocratic decisions that carry significant impact.

Ricardo Salles, a candidate in São Paulo, stated that the process requires a Senate leadership willing to analyze such requests. He emphasized that impeachment should follow due process and the right to defense, asserting that if responsibility is proven, the law must be applied to any minister.
