Brazilian Senate hosts Young Senator Program winners
The Brazilian Senate is hosting 27 students for the Legislative Experience Week from Monday (17) to Friday (21). These winners of the Young Senator Program represent all 26 states and the Federal District. The program involves activities regarding the functioning of the Legislative Power, including proposal presentations and debates within the Senate.
The 2026 edition of the essay contest saw record participation, with 239,449 students from 5,361 high schools nationwide. The program is exclusively for public school students and has engaged over 2 million students across its 14 editions.
This year's results showed a significant female presence, with girls accounting for 85% of the winners (23 out of 27). Most winners reside in small interior towns; only five students live in state capitals. The theme for the 2026 contest was ‘Democracy on social networks: how to build a healthy debate,’ focusing on media education and combating disinformation.
