Brazilian Senate partners with Pela Vida das Mulheres movement

The Brazilian Senate has joined the Pela Vida das Mulheres movement, a multi-sector partnership involving the public sector and organizations such as Avon, Instituto Natura, and the Maria da Penha Foundation. The movement aims to combat domestic and family violence through the campaign ‘Somos Maiores que a Violência Contra as Mulheres’.

Data from the Fórum Brasileiro de Segurança Pública indicates that Brazil recorded 1,568 femicides in 2025, averaging more than four gender-based murders per day. Additionally, a survey by DataSenado and the Observatório da Mulher contra a Violência revealed a significant perception gap: while 33% of interviewed women reported experiencing violence, only 4% identified the acts as such.

The movement utilizes the Awareness Index on Violence Against Women, created by Instituto Natura and Avon. In 2025, the index stood at 29%, with a long-term goal to reach 73% by 2035. This index has also been applied in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru.
