Luís Roberto returns to Globo, details cancer treatment on Domingão

Brazilian sports commentator Luís Roberto, diagnosed with a cervical neoplasia (tumor) in April 2026, underwent an intensive regimen of radiotherapy and chemotherapy – up to 36 radiotherapy sessions and seven chemotherapy sessions over two months, totaling 43 treatment sessions. On July 5, the day Brazil faced Norway in the World Cup 2026 round of 16, he appeared on the TV program Domingão com Huck. He thanked viewers for an “avalanche of carinho” (support), said gratitude “moves him,” and declared, “I’m on the road to cure.” The broadcast included a retrospective report on his career and a video message from his wife, Jacy Santos, who said they had emerged victorious from the battle. During his absence, Everaldo Marques covered his duties at Globo. Roberto emphasized the heaviness of the treatment and the importance of mental strength, expressing optimism about full recovery and a future return to commentary.
