Brazilian legislatures move on 2027 budget guidelines (LDO)

Municipal and state legislatures across Brazil have taken up the 2027 Lei de Diretrizes Orçamentárias (LDO). In Manhuaçu (MG) the municipal chamber scheduled a public hearing to solicit citizen input on the upcoming LDO. The state assemblies of Sergipe and Alagoas approved their LDOs, projecting revenues of R$ 21.0 billion and R$ 27.99 billion respectively, and setting priorities for the next fiscal year.

The Assembly of Paraíba announced a session to vote on its LDO and allocate roughly R$ 225.5 million for parliamentary amendments, despite pending Supreme Court matters. In Cuiabá, the municipal chamber rejected its 2027 LDO after failing to reach the required quorum, prompting the chamber president Paula Calil to assert readiness to review a revised proposal and vereador Michelly Alencar to criticize the empty session and stress the importance of the LDO for municipal budgeting.

These actions represent the routine but pivotal step of defining fiscal targets and spending priorities before the detailed annual budget is drafted.
