Brazilian towns intensify fire‑prevention programs

The municipality of Sento‑Sé in Bahia hosted the Caravana Bahia Sem Fogo, a state‑run initiative aimed at forest‑fire prevention and environmental education. Mayor Giselda Carvalho stressed the town’s role as the “capital of the Caatinga biome” and the importance of protecting the region’s natural heritage.

In Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre, the municipal Climate, Environment and Sustainability Secretariat convened a coordination meeting with six agencies—including the Military Firefighters Corps, the Institute of Environment of Acre, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Civil Defense, IBAMA and the State Environment Secretariat—to strengthen joint actions against fires during the dry season. Officials highlighted integrated response, public awareness campaigns in schools, and the need for community vigilance.

Both initiatives reflect a broader effort by local governments in Brazil to mobilize resources, educate residents and coordinate agencies to reduce the risk of wildfires and protect vulnerable ecosystems.
