Brazilian towns Nova Trento and Natal adopt new school child‑protection protocols

The municipal administration of Nova Trento, through its Education Secretariat, has reinforced existing protocols in all municipal schools to identify, support and refer cases of suspected violence or rights violations against children and adolescents. Staff receive ongoing training to recognize signs of vulnerability, conduct specialized listening, and immediately contact protection agencies such as the Conselho Tutelar, social assistance and health services. Reports are to be made anonymously via the 24‑hour Disque 100 hotline.

In Natal, the city council approved a law that creates preventive measures, educational campaigns, professional training and formal procedures for handling sexual abuse of children and adolescents in public schools, municipal early‑education centers and other educational units. The legislation mandates outreach activities, distribution of informational material, safe communication within schools, and coordinated referral to the Conselho Tutelar and other protection services, also emphasizing the use of Disque 100 for reporting.
