Brazilian Vila Helena Center runs child abuse awareness activities for Maio Laranja
On May 20‑21, the Cras Vila Helena social assistance center in Brazil organized a child‑focused event to raise awareness of the national "Maio Laranja" campaign against child sexual abuse. Preschool children at the Centro de Educação Infantil 95 listened to a story‑telling session featuring the book “Conte para alguém” and then participated in an activity using the campaign’s orange flower symbol. They painted the flower and wrote the names of trusted adults they could turn to for help, later planting the flowers in a symbolic “garden of trust.”
The event also included a session on May 11 with the Associação Criança Feliz, extending the outreach to staff and emphasizing prevention, rights, and the importance of reporting abuse via the Disque 100 hotline. Organizers highlighted the role of education and community engagement in strengthening child protection networks.
