Brazilian water and electricity providers roll out social aid programs in Rio das Ostras and Itaboraí

Rio+Saneamento is conducting weekly itinerant visits to the social assistance centers (CRAS) in Rio das Ostras every Tuesday this month, offering on‑site registration for the Tarifa Social water subsidy. The service includes document verification, updates to accounts, new connection requests, debt negotiations and discounts of up to 65% on commercial terms. Residents must present ID, CPF, water bill, proof of residence and CadÚnico registration to qualify.

Enel Rio has opened a fridge‑exchange program for Itaboraí, targeting 50 low‑income families with new, energy‑efficient refrigerators that consume up to 70% less power. Applications are accepted online or at designated service points until 14:00 on 8 July, after which a draw determines the winners. The utility also provides free debt‑settlement assistance, parceling options, reconnection services, LED‑lamp swaps and mobile outreach, and is installing tele‑control equipment in several neighborhoods.

Both initiatives aim to improve access to essential services while promoting energy and water conservation among vulnerable households.
