Technical experts noted that the plant’s abandonment threatens the recycling of treatment chemicals, increases water‑waste costs and could impair water quality if sludge accumulates in treatment tanks.

In São Paulo, a resident, Carlos Abrão, complained of repeated nighttime water cuts and an unusually high consumption reading that led Sabesp to retain his bill for analysis. Sabesp responded that the spike was atypical, that the bill was issued based on average usage, and that a technical inspection had been scheduled while confirming that supply in the area remains normal.
