Brazilian woman missing in Barcelona for over 40 days

Mônica Maria da Silva, a 36-year-old hairdresser from Pedras de Fogo, Paraíba, has been missing in Barcelona, Spain, for over 40 days. Her family reports that the last contact with her occurred on July 4.

Her family located her residence near the Can Cuiàs metro station in the Barcelona region. During their search, a former client provided the family with photos, videos, and messages. In one message from April, Mônica reportedly asked the client to save the material due to fears of losing access to her phone. Some images show Mônica with injuries to her nails, and there are unconfirmed reports from third parties suggesting she may have suffered physical aggression. There are also claims that she had sought assistance from SARA, a service for women facing violence in Catalonia.

Mônica had lived in Spain since 2021, returning to Brazil briefly before traveling back to Europe in 2024. Her six-year-old daughter remains in Brazil under the care of relatives. The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) has stated it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance to the family, though details regarding any active investigation by Spanish authorities have not been released.
