Disappearance of Brazilian woman in Barcelona

Overview

Mônica Maria da Silva, a 36-year-old Brazilian hairdresser, has been missing in Barcelona, Spain, for over 40 days. Her family reported that her last contact occurred on July 4.

During searches near her residence, family members obtained photos and messages from a former client. In one message from April, Mônica reportedly requested that the client save certain materials due to fears of losing access to her phone. Some images showed injuries to her nails, and there are unconfirmed reports suggesting she may have suffered physical aggression. There are also claims that she had sought assistance from SARA, a service for women facing violence in Catalonia.

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated it is providing consular assistance to the family.
