Brazilian youth express financial concern despite low preparation
A study by the Locomotiva Institute, commissioned by the Brazilian Association of Closed Supplementary Pension Entities (Abrapp), reveals a significant gap between financial concern and action among young Brazilians aged 18 to 30.
While 80% of respondents express concern regarding their financial future, only 34% believe they are taking concrete steps to prepare. Although 65% acknowledge that retirement planning should begin before age 30, 60% of participants make financial decisions based on a horizon of six months or less. For half of those surveyed, thinking about retirement triggers anxiety rather than motivation.
Financial constraints remain a major barrier, with 41% of respondents reporting they have no surplus resources or are living with debt. Only 19% possess enough reserves to cover more than three months of expenses. Key obstacles to saving include frequent unforeseen events (28%), insufficient income (26%), and indebtedness (26%).
While financial independence is the top goal for 39% of participants, saving for retirement ranks only seventh at 19%.
