Brazil's 2026 World Cup projected to generate R$61 billion in consumer spending
A survey by SPC Brazil estimates that 60% of consumers—about 99.2 million people—intend to spend during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with an average ticket of R$619 per person, amounting to roughly R$61 billion in total sales.
Purchases are expected to focus on non‑alcoholic drinks (68%), snacks (62%), themed apparel (61%), barbecue items (60%) and beer (59%). In services, 61% plan to use food‑and‑drink delivery, 39% to visit bars or restaurants, and 30‑33% to subscribe to sports TV packages or streaming platforms. More than half (57%) will use Pix for payments, while 90% intend to buy cash‑free. Around 27% say they may rely on credit‑card limits or overdrafts.
The study notes that 61% of prospective spenders already have overdue accounts, with 70% of those classified as negative. About 41% expect to place bets during the tournament, many viewing gambling as a way to address debts. Nearly all respondents (97%) plan to watch matches with family or friends, primarily at home (86%).
