Brazil electoral updates: legal challenges and AI protections

Brazil's electoral landscape is facing various legal and technological challenges as the election cycle progresses. In Alagoas, the state recorded only 11 complaints of irregular electoral propaganda via the Pardal app, placing it among the states with the lowest number of reports nationwide.

Legal challenges are also emerging in Alagoas, where the Public Electoral Ministry (MPE) has requested the disqualification of Yale Barbosa Fernandes, the vice-gubernatorial candidate for Renan Filho's ticket. The MPE questions whether Fernandes vacated previous municipal positions within the legally required timeframes.

Technological concerns regarding artificial intelligence are a major focus. In Mato Grosso, the Regional Electoral Court has invited gubernatorial candidates to join an initiative to protect against voice cloning. Meanwhile, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) is evaluating new mechanisms to monitor free electoral advertising on radio and television to prevent fraud, following previous complaints regarding missed broadcasts.

In a separate judicial matter, Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes authorized Carlos and Jair Renan to resume visits to former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is under house arrest, noting that the previous suspension period had ended. However, visits by Flávio Bolsonaro remain prohibited.
