Brazil's ANP monitors fuel supply in North amid El Niño drought

The Brazil National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) announced that it is actively monitoring fuel supplies in the country's North Region as the 2026 El Niño‑linked drought progresses. The agency aims to prevent logistical risks from reduced river navigability and to safeguard national fuel availability.

Starting 7 July, ANP joins a monitoring room coordinated by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, reviewing contingency plans submitted by major distributors such as Amazongás, Fogás, Atem, Vibra, Raízen, Ipiranga, Equador, Ream and Petrobras. Between 6‑10 July, ANP will hold individual meetings with these firms to assess actions, identify additional measures and compile a detailed supply‑status report for 2026.

ANP notes that its preventive monitoring, in place since 2023, has overseen the two historically largest dry seasons in the region without any fuel shortages. The agency also coordinated with the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) on contingency planning for isolated electricity systems in Amazonas, Acre and Rondônia.
