Brazil's Anvisa approves new flu vaccine Fluprevli with up to 73% efficacy

Brazil's health regulator Anvisa has granted registration for Fluprevli, a trivalent, inactivated influenza vaccine. The product is authorized for active immunisation of people aged six months and older against influenza A and B strains recommended for the 2026 season. Clinical data submitted to Anvisa showed efficacy of up to 73% in adults and up to 65% in children, along with high rates of seroprotection and seroconversion.

The vaccine will be available commercially after further steps: it must be assessed and recommended by the Comissão Nacional de Incorporação de Tecnologias no SUS (Conitec) and subsequently approved by the Ministry of Health before being incorporated into the public Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS). No timeline has been set for those decisions. Influenza remains a seasonal public‑health concern in Brazil, causing hospitalisations and deaths especially among young children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with chronic conditions.
