Brazil's B3 cleared to register duplicata escritural, bolstering credit infrastructure

Brazil's primary stock exchange, B3, received authorization from the Central Bank to act as a registrar for duplicata escritural, the electronic version of commercial receivable documents. With individual and integrated testing completed, B3 will move to an assisted‑production phase where companies and financial institutions can operate with duplicatas in real‑world conditions. The mandatory rollout is slated for large firms in 2027 and will expand to medium and small firms by 2028, aiming to increase transaction security, lower credit costs and broaden access to financing.

Technology firm Núclea, a registered provider with the Central Bank, is developing the supporting infrastructure for duplicata escritural and the split‑payment system tied to Brazil’s tax reform. Núclea’s CEO André Daré says the new model could mobilise around R$ 11 trillion annually, unlocking credit for businesses and improving transparency. The firm highlights that a shared, traceable data environment will enhance competition among lenders, reduce information asymmetries and help prevent fraud. Coordinated efforts among regulators, financial institutions and market participants are underway as the assisted‑testing phase approaches.
