Brazil's Civil Police Salaries and a $45 Million Caixa Fraud Reveal Security Strains

A study released on 4 March 2025 shows Brazil's civil police earn an average gross salary of R$ 15,512.52 and a net salary of R$ 10,833.63. The highest gross pay is in Amazonas at R$ 26,824.02, while Minas Gerais records the lowest at R$ 12,195.03. Net salaries follow a similar pattern, with Amazonas again leading and Acre at the bottom.

Separately, a federal investigation into a criminal ring that siphoned roughly R$ 45 million from Caixa Econômica Federal was leaked a month before the operation. The gang, led by Jader Henrique Areas de Almeida in Rio de Janeiro and assisted by a couple in São Paulo, accessed victims' FGTS and emergency aid accounts. The leak allowed suspects to destroy evidence and hide funds in offshore accounts. Authorities have removed the implicated court staff and continue a secret inquiry.
