Brazil’s classic film “Xica da Silva” re‑released in 4K for its 50th anniversary

The 1976 Brazilian film “Xica da Silva”, directed by Cacá Diegues and starring Zezé Motta, has been restored and remastered in 4K to mark its 50th anniversary. The new version debuted at the UCI Orient cinema in Salvador with promotional tickets priced at R$ 20 (full) and R$ 10 (half), offering audiences higher‑quality picture and sound.

A restored print is also being shown at Cine Teatro Cuiabá as part of the Petrobras Vitrine program, which circulates classic national films across Brazilian cities. Tickets for the Cuiabá screening cost R$ 10 (full) and R$ 5 (half). The screenings highlight the film’s historic significance, having drawn more than 3 million viewers at its original release and being celebrated for featuring a Black female protagonist during Brazil’s military dictatorship era.
