Brazilian bill seeks to ban fuel price differences between cash and Pix payments

Bill 1071/26, introduced by Deputy Amaro Neto (PP‑ES), prohibits gasoline stations from charging different prices when consumers pay with cash or the instant payment method Pix. The proposal treats both payment forms as equivalent because they incur no financial‑intermediary fees and requires stations to display a single, uniform price, banning labels such as “price for Pix” or “price for cash.”

Violations would trigger sanctions under the Consumer Defense Code, including administrative fines, mandatory double refunds, and possible suspension of the station’s activity for repeated offences. Enforcement would be handled by consumer‑protection agencies. The measure is currently under final review by the Chamber of Deputies' Committees on Consumer Defense and Constitution & Justice and must be approved by the Senate before becoming law.
