Brazil's Desenrola 2.0 program renegotiates R$20 million in household debt

The federal Ministry of Finance launched an online simulator for the Novo Desenrola Brasil – Famílias (Desenrola 2.0) program, allowing consumers to estimate possible discounts, installment plans and the use of up to 20 % of their FGTS balance (or R$1,000, whichever is greater) before approaching a bank. The tool targets families earning up to five minimum wages with debts contracted before 31 January 2026 and overdue between 91 and 730 days, offering discounts of up to 90 %, a maximum interest rate of 1.99 % per month and repayment periods of 12 to 48 months.

Since its launch in early May, the program has renegotiated roughly R$20 million for 1.4 million individual debts, delivering an average discount of 85 % of the original amount. More than half of the borrowers (about 854 000) were able to clear their balances in a single payment. The Desenrola das Empresas branch handled 85 000 operations, totaling R$11 billion in corporate debt. A new modality, “Desenrola Adimplentes,” is being prepared to assist credit‑worthy borrowers who maintain regular payments but face liquidity constraints.
