Brazil debt renegotiation programs Desenrola Fies and Desenrola Brasil end Monday

The deadline for the Desenrola Fies 2026 program, a federal initiative to renegotiate student loan debts from the Fundo de Financiamento Estudantil (Fies), expires this Monday, August 31. The program offers special conditions and discounts for both compliant and delinquent borrowers.

To be eligible for Desenrola Fies, students must have contracts signed by 2017 that were in the amortization phase as of May 4, 2026. Contracts signed from January 1, 2018, onwards, or those still in the usage or grace periods, are not eligible. Renegotiation must be conducted through the responsible financial institutions: Banco do Brasil or Caixa Econômica Federal, via their respective digital apps or in person at specific branches.

Separately, the broader Novo Desenrola Brasil program, which targets general bank debts for individuals earning up to five minimum wages, also reaches its deadline on August 31. This program covers various credit types, including revolving credit cards and overdrafts, for debts contracted by January 31, 2026, with delays between 91 days and two years.
