Brazil's Detran-SP Announces 283-Vehicle Auction Amid New Online Auction Regulations

The São Paulo State Department of Transportation (Detran‑SP) will hold an auction of 283 seized vehicles from the Lorena and Roseira areas starting 3 August. The auction will be conducted over three days, separating conserved vehicles, salvageable scrap and non‑recyclable scrap, with pre‑bids accepted from 27 July. Minimum bids start at R$ 810 for motorcycles and R$ 2,610 for cars, and owners may reclaim their vehicles up to one business day before the sale by settling all debts.

Separately, Brazil’s National Traffic Council (Contran) issued Resolution 1.025/2026, requiring all vehicle seizures nationwide to be sold exclusively through an online platform. The rule standardises procedures across states, shortens storage periods, links any shortfall in auction proceeds to the former owner’s tax ID, and integrates records into the Sivec system. Vehicles that fail to receive bids in two successive auctions will be classified as scrap and sent for recycling.
