Brazil's Distrito Federal Nota Legal program holds R$179.9 million pending for taxpayers

The Government of Brazil's Distrito Federal (GDF) has set a deadline of 30 April for participants in the Nota Legal program to register a bank account and claim accumulated credits. By 23 April, 133,900 registrants had updated their details, including 43,500 first‑time updates, representing about 12% of the more than 1.1 million eligible contributors.

The program currently holds over R$37 million in claimed credits, but a total of R$179.9 million remains unclaimed by roughly 972,300 taxpayers who have not yet provided banking information. The majority of updates came from the Plano Piloto region (21,200), followed by Ceilândia (11,800), Taguatinga (10,300) and Águas Claras (9,500). To receive a refund, claimants must have at least R$25 in credits and the account must be in the claimant’s own name.

Payments are scheduled to begin in September, and the program also offers prize draws, the ability to offset municipal taxes, and a donation option through the Nota Solidária initiative.
