Brazil 2026 Elections: TSE issues voter guidelines and candidate warnings FAST-MOVING

As the 2026 elections approach in Brazil, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and regional courts have issued several critical guidelines for voters. A major warning has been issued regarding candidate legitimacy: votes cast for candidates whose registrations have been denied, canceled, or revoked may be annulled, even if their names and photos still appear on the electronic voting machines. Voters are encouraged to use the DivulgaCandContas system to verify candidate status.

Regarding logistics, the TSE announced that the e-Título app can be downloaded even on the days of voting, a change from previous years when downloads were restricted to prevent system overload. The app serves multiple functions, including identity verification (if a photo is present), justifying absences, and paying electoral debts via Pix or credit card. Voters who cannot attend the polls can justify their absence through the app via geolocation or at a physical desk; failure to do so results in a fine of R$ 3.51 per round.

Polling data from Datafolha indicates significant voter indecision, with 59% of Brazilians yet to decide on a Senate candidate and 57% undecided for federal deputy. Additionally, legal restrictions are in effect regarding the arrest of voters and candidates in the days surrounding the election, except in cases of flagrante delicto. Accessibility measures are also being implemented, including the availability of Libras interpreters to assist hearing-impaired voters at polling stations.
