Brazil's Education Ministry announces Pé-de-Meia payments restart and PET scholarship withdrawal rules
The Ministry of Education confirmed that the Pé-de-Meia program will resume monthly payments of R$200 to public high‑school students in August after a scheduled pause in July. Eligible students must have recorded at least 80% attendance in May and June 2026, and payments will be made between 24 and 31 August according to birth month. The ministry also noted that pending payments for earlier months (including enrollment incentives and March‑April attendance) may be processed later in the month. The program provides additional benefits such as a R$200 enrollment grant for adult education, a R$225 attendance grant, an annual R$1,000 savings deposit, and a R$200 incentive for ENEM participants.
Separately, the Programa Educação Tutorial (PET) scholarship scheme issued new deadlines for beneficiaries. Scholars must withdraw at least part of the credited amount within 120 days and the full amount within 180 days; otherwise the funds will be returned to the National Fund for Education Development (FNDE). Re‑payment after a return requires a formal request, justification, and available budget. Recipients must keep their registration data up to date in the PET management system and activate their benefit card to access the funds.
