Brazil's Education Ministry launches multiple initiatives for early childhood, learning recovery and digital skills

In June 2024 Brazil’s Ministry of Education (MEC) hosted a series of events and policy actions aimed at strengthening the country’s education system. A formative meeting in Maceió brought together about 100 officials to review the Pé‑de‑Meia scholarship program for high‑school students, introduce the School Trajectory Protection system and unveil new digital tools for managing the benefit.

The ministry also held a webinar on 25 June to present diagnostic reports on the national pact for recomposition of learning, assessing progress in addressing pandemic‑related learning gaps.

From 22–23 June MEC convened the first National Seminar on Public Policies for the First Childhood (PNIPI) in Brasília, launching a guide for inter‑sectoral early‑childhood plans, new postgraduate courses, a knowledge‑action strategy and discussing municipal plans such as Votuporanga’s draft municipal early‑childhood plan.

Separately, a decree published on 24 June created a working group to draft a Matrix of Digital and Media Competencies for basic education, which will guide assessments and support the National Connected Schools strategy. All initiatives target improved school retention, equitable learning recovery and the development of digital competencies for Brazilian students.
