Brazil's Education Ministry launches Sisu+ to fill public university vacancies

The Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) announced the creation of Sisu+, a new complementary stage of the Unified Selection System (Sisu), to occupy empty seats in public higher‑education institutions for the second semester of 2026. Institutions that participated in the regular Sisu round must submit any unfilled spots through an amendment to their original Sisu 2026 agreement.

Candidates who have taken the ENEM exam in the past three years and applied in the regular Sisu round can register for Sisu+ between 15 and 19 June, selecting up to two course options. Results of the single regular call will be published on 24 June, with a waiting‑list phase from 24 to 26 June. Enrollment for those selected in the regular call starts on 25 June, while waiting‑list admissions begin on 1 July.

Sisu+ aims to streamline vacancy filling, reduce idle seats, and cut costs by using the automated Sisu infrastructure, especially in courses with high turnover where students often withdraw or change majors.
