Brazil's Education Ministry reports 22 states join National Hip‑Hop School program
Brazil's Ministry of Education announced that 22 states and the Federal District have confirmed participation in the Escola Nacional de Hip‑Hop, a program that integrates hip‑hop culture into the school curriculum. The initiative is part of the National Policy of Equity, Ethnic‑Racial Relations and Quilombola School Education and is slated to receive R$ 50 million in funding for 2026‑2027.
The program aims to strengthen student identity and inclusion through activities such as rap battles, slams, graffiti, breaking, and music production, while also seeking to improve school climate and reduce excessive mobile‑phone use. Municipal participation is high, with Amapá leading at 93.75% of its municipalities, followed by Roraima (93.33%) and Acre (81.81%). States still pending formal adoption include Amazonas, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso and Paraná. Education networks have until 30 June to sign up via the Integrated Monitoring, Execution and Control System (SIMEc).
