Brazil's egg consumption hits record as industry gathers in Recife

Egg consumption in Brazil has surged to a historic level, with per‑capita intake rising from about 120 eggs fifteen years ago to 288 eggs this year, according to the Associação Brasileira de Proteína Animal. The increase is driving rapid modernization of the commercial egg‑laying sector, with producers investing in new technologies, improved bio‑security and greater efficiency.

The trend will be a central theme at the Simpósio de Inovações na Produção de Ovos Comerciais, organized by the Fundação de Apoio à Ciência e Tecnologia Animal (FACTA) on 20‑21 May in Recife, Pernambuco. Speakers include Edival Veras, president of Instituto Ovos Brasil, who will compare Brazil’s performance with other leading egg‑producing nations and stress the role of eggs as an affordable, high‑value protein for national food security.
