Brazil's Electoral Courts Keep Senate Candidate Acir Gurgacz Eligible and Uphold DataTrends Poll

The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) suspended the Regional Electoral Court of Rondônia's (TRE‑RO) decision that had denied former senator Acir Gurgacz's eligibility, allowing his Senate candidacy to proceed while the appeal is pending. The provisional ruling, signed by TSE president Minister Kassio Nunes Marques, does not constitute a final determination of eligibility but prevents the TRE‑RO ruling from taking effect during the election calendar.

In Paraíba, the Regional Electoral Court (TRE‑PB) rejected a request from the state branch of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB) to block the publication of a DataTrends poll covering the governor and Senate races. Judge Bianor Arruda Bezerra Neto ruled that the party had not demonstrated sufficient technical flaws or concrete harm to justify an injunction, permitting the poll to be released as scheduled.
