Brazil's electric vehicle market reaches 16% share as sales surge

In April 2026 Brazil recorded 38,516 registrations of light electrified vehicles, bringing the segment to 16.2% of total vehicle sales – a rise of 161% compared with April 2025. The first four months of 2026 saw 30,615 such vehicles sold, 124% more than the same period a year earlier, with plug‑in hybrids accounting for 80% of April registrations, battery‑electric models 45.4% and PHEVs 34.3%. The Southeast region contributed 44.2% of the electrified sales, while the Northeast saw an 18% fleet increase early in the year; Ceará alone reported a 240% growth in its electrified fleet between 2023 and 2025. Brazil’s public and semi‑public charging network reached 16,880 points in 2025, and the Northeast expanded its charging infrastructure by 25.8% in six months, supporting the rapid market expansion.
