Brazil's Energy Reform Gains Momentum at ENASE 2026

At the 23rd National Meeting of Electricity Sector Agents (ENASE) in Rio de Janeiro, National Secretary of Electric Energy João Daniel Cascalho emphasized the progress of Brazil's electricity sector reform. He highlighted the shift toward a more competitive and sustainable market, the rationalisation of subsidies, the modernisation of the Energy Development Account and the regulation of new technologies such as hybrid plant storage. The reform aims to strengthen legal certainty, expand consumer choice and attract investment while ensuring energy security and tariff moderation.

In a separate event in São Paulo, the National Federation of Engineers released its 2026 agenda, calling energy a strategic axis for Brazil's development. The document stresses that expanding renewable sources requires long‑term planning and infrastructure investment, and that treating energy as a strategic asset can boost industrial competitiveness, foster technological innovation and create qualified jobs. Both initiatives underline the role of energy policy in driving Brazil's economic growth and integration into global markets.
