Brazil's energy storage market sees record registrations for 2026 auctions
More than 6,000 projects totaling 296.9 GW of capacity have been registered for Brazil's upcoming Storage Capacity Reserve Auctions (LRCAP) scheduled for 2 and 4 December 2026. The data, released by the Empresa de Pesquisa Energética (EPE), reflects strong market interest driven by the solar and wind sectors.
The Brazilian Solar Photovoltaic Association (ABSOLAR) says the volume of registrations signals a mature market ready to invest in large‑scale electricity storage. ABSOLAR executive president Rodrigo Sauaia highlighted the strategic role of storage in enhancing grid flexibility, energy security and renewable integration. Vice‑president Sérgio Jacobsen added that the auctions will open a new market segment, spur investment, foster technological innovation, create qualified jobs and strengthen the national value chain. The next phase will involve a technical qualification review by EPE to ensure projects meet the system’s requirements before contracts are awarded.
