Brazil’s ETF assets hit R$120 billion while UK investor ownership quadruples

In Brazil, the total assets of exchange‑traded funds surged from R$54 billion to R$120 billion over the past 18 months, more than doubling the market size. The number of individual investors in ETFs rose 35% to roughly 823,000, and those investors now hold about R$31 billion, accounting for over a quarter of the sector’s assets. Despite the rapid growth, ETFs represent only about 1% of Brazil’s overall fund industry, suggesting ample room for further expansion.

In the United Kingdom, ownership of ETFs among non‑advised retail investors has risen from 5% in 2020 to 19% today, matching the share of traditional mutual funds. The increase is driven by perceptions of diversification, simplicity and lower costs, with platforms such as Trading 212 and Vanguard leading the uptake.
