Brazil's ex-President Bolsonaro seeks STF approval for medical exams

Jair Bolsonaro's legal team filed a request on Monday with Supreme Court justice Alexandre de Moraes asking permission for the former president to undergo a series of diagnostic procedures at Hospital DF Star in Brasília. The petition lists chest and abdominal computed‑tomography scans without contrast, high‑resolution esophageal manometry, upper‑digestive endoscopy and esophageal pH‑monitoring.

The exams were prescribed to monitor ongoing pulmonary problems and gastrointestinal ailments, including recovery from a broncho‑aspirative pneumonia and conditions such as erosive esophagitis, chronic gastritis and gastro‑esophageal reflux. Bolsonaro, who is serving a 27‑year‑plus prison sentence under house arrest after his conviction for an attempted coup, has been under a 90‑day humanitarian release from a hospital since late March. His family has publicly expressed concern about his health, with statements that he remains lucid and in good spirits.

The request now awaits a decision from Justice Moraes, which will determine whether Bolsonaro can travel to the private facility for the proposed medical follow‑up.
