Bolsonaro's house arrest renewal pending as PGR says weapon seizure not a grave offense

Prosecutor‑General Paulo Gonet submitted a report to the Supreme Court on 25 June stating that the seizure of a firearm linked to former president Jair Bolsonaro and his security detail does not yet constitute a grave disciplinary breach. He said the case remains in the initial investigative stage and that a final judgment should await the conclusion of the Federal District Police inquiry.

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who imposed Bolsonaro’s 90‑day house‑arrest in March for health reasons, asked the PGR for an opinion within 48 hours and will decide whether to extend the regime after the period expires on 25 June. Bolsonaro’s defence has petitioned the court to prolong the house‑arrest, citing ongoing medical issues and a recent medical report. In a recent police interview Bolsonaro confirmed ownership of the Glock pistol and explained he kept it because “there were three women at home and I could not be unarmed.” Moraes has indicated the possession could be a “grave offense” under the Brazilian Penal Execution Code if deemed a violation of his custodial conditions.
